We're not far off from celebrating the end of 2009 and re-energizing ourselves for the next 12 months and all they may bring.
I suppose the most important events in our last year have been selling up in France and settling into Nocton our new base. It's been traumatic at times, limiting, exhilarating, disappointing. I'm glad to be settled though and I'm looking forward to a rewarding 2010!
A collection of notes, stories, reflections on my life in Nocton village.

A novel from Nocton.........
We’re often told “there’s a novel in all of us just waiting to get told”.Well, mine can’t be that keen because it isn’t pressing me at all to come out - like some new energised babe into this old world.
No - mine is hidden away and just wants to stay there, untold and unlived and even unloved.
Now in my case it could just be laziness. I’ve only ever done that which will get me by and not a centimeter more. And it’s been easy living like that in the semi darkness just doing enough, just doing well, not totally committed, not flat out.It doesn’t get a novel or even a poem written but it’s a very safe island where nothing scary can happen to you.
Could it be that all that changes at Nocton. Will the New Year bring a break-through?

Xmas - A Digital ghost for another Year
Well it's come and gone at Nocton.
All that planning, all that activity and business and worry - all gone now in whiffs of memory, Black bags of coloured paper, empty champagne bottles. There are remnants of cheeses and game pie. No turkey thank the gods. Echos down the digital cameras, forgotten moments confined to thumbsnail images. Some never to be encountered again.

I know this is preprosterous but......George Clooney has arrived in Nocton.
I know this is preposterous.................. but it's snowing so badly outside I want to test a possibility on you.
It's Nocton Village, the snow lies deep, it's Friday 18th December 2009.
There's a knock at the door. It's midnight. There's a man at the door in the shadows, explaining his car has come off the road and he'd like to use our phone. He's in the shadows so I can't see what he looks like but I invite him in.
Into the light steps George Clooney. No not George Gooney from Bardney but George Clooney from Hollywood......the Holleywood actor, Ocean's 11 and all that....
.....would you like to hear what happens next...........

Snow expected at Nocton 2009
It's not yet too cold for Winter but the predictions are all about snow and more snow at Nocton, Lincs. And soon. Probably tomorrow 17th December.
I don't think we'll be going anywhere too far......tomorrow!!! It would be really nice to see Nocton Hall covered in a layer of snow.

Our First Xmas Local Post at Nocton
We don't really know our neighbours yet. We've stopped and said hello to a few but not really established contact in a meaningful way. Carol's thinking of doing a Coffee club along the lines of the one in Limoges but hasn't made a move.
Anyway we had our first Xmas card from a neighbour at No 5! Lovely!

The trees are up today.....
Yes - the trees are up and the decorations and some lights above the garage. We're in business for Christmas 2009. I'm tired now though. Been at it all day. Looking forward to my lamb chops and some different trimmings!
Our Postie
Met our Postie today for the first time and had a chat about the village. We have a little post office which if pushed can hold up to three persons maximum!
Anyway back to J our postie. She is very knowledgeable about the village having lived here for over 30 years. So if you want any information she is the one to ask. And guess what? She tells us that we're getting a Xmas tree for the village. Now that's made our day.......and all the parcels she's brought from Amazon.

Must get the tree up this weekend.
Only 2 weeks before Xmas and we haven't moved the tree from the garage. It's still in the box. But Carol has tested the lights and they're all working.
Carol Singers for Carol......
The Nocton School carol singers arrived tonight to serenade us before Xmas. Great sound and what a pleasure to hear them sing. Roll on Xmas........

Seals here and there and there...........Donna Nock is the place to go.
Donna Nock, Lincolnshire
Been to Donna Nock today. Very cold that Eastern coast but bracing. Saw the most incredible collection of seals at Donna Nock. Just look into those eyes and you're lost forever........

Went back to the Gym today.....
After our bout of swine flu or whatever, we returned to some form of training today. It was very refreshing after a two week layoff.
Blood test results tomorrow.....
Am I worried? Yes just a little.
Carol tells me it'll be cholestorol and the Dr will give me statin.
I don't know. It's the waiting isn't it!

We wish you a metal xmas and a headbanging new year!

Litter around and about........
Nocton is a pretty village with some great houses, open spaces and wonderful trees. But it also has LITTER, the blight of modern UK!
Litter here and there and there and there.
Something needs to be done...........

Doctor Doctor
Called in to the Metheringham practice this am. Thy had contacted me about my results from their blood test. It's "routine" apparently and I've been booked in to see Dr S on Wednesday.
What is routine for the receptionist may be catastrophic for me. Roll on Wednesday!

Lighting up in Nocton.......Xmas is fast approaching
I've waited and waited and finally some Xmas lights have gone up in Nocton. Two of our neighbours have installed the most beautiful blue lights across their conservatories. Great! But where are the rest of them?
There are Xmas trees at Branston & Potterhanworth but nothing in our village. Why not?
Where is the spirit of Xmas?
